Dear Valued Matrix Customers,

I am writing to you today regarding an important update concerning your NEC phone system.  Recently NEC made the global decision to exit the PBX (Premise Based Exchange) on-premise UC (Unified Communications) business.

This change applies to all NEC on premise UC products.  NEC will honor all existing contractual obligations, with the following stipulations:

  • NEC will not accept new purchase orders after December 31, 2024
  • NEC will not accept any new purchase orders with a scheduled delivery date after March 31st, 2025.
  • NEC will not provide any hardware or software support services beyond March 31st, 2026
  • Final NEC shipments of UC premise based products will be completed by March 31st, 2025. No product shipments will be completed after this date.

This is a striking announcement, as NEC is the world’s largest provider of PBX systems.   However, it reflects the global market conditions and is an acknowledgement by NEC that the adoption of cloud-based technologies and AI by business worldwide is the future of business communications.

Your existing NEC system is Best In Class.  It will continue to operate seamlessly.  This announcement should not cause panic, but it should prompt you to begin planning for the next investment of your resources.
